We've created a product that expresses a unique heritage, mixing quality and authenticity. Afar's bags draw inspiration from the nature, the soul, and the energy of the African continent; they are sturdy and durable, light to be your ideal travel companions, made exclusively with natural materials. Each raw material has a story to tell, illustrating our commitment to sustainable design. The leather is derived from Zebu cows, the ancestors of all cattle still living on the highlands of East Africa, in order to support farmers dedicated to traditional agriculture. This type of leather is dense and robust, with a grain that shows the signs of a long and active life, a true byproduct that provides additional income to farmers at the end of the animal's life cycle. The consistency of the leather is enhanced by vegetable tanning and hand waxing, making the leather resistant for a lifetime. Most of the components, such as buckles, used to complete Afar's bags, are made from horn, an extremely durable natural material, provided by Zebu cows, extraordinary creatures that, thanks to their massive humps, can endure the harsh environment in which they live without the need for feed or stables, being free animals. When horn cannot be used, Afar resorts to titanium, a light and robust material, in harmony with the brand's philosophy.
